Lee West uses telemetry to determine the location and activity of his bird dog.

Watching Lee work his dogs is like watching a master artist applying oil onto canvas. Lee's experience and dedication to his Barshoe dogs makes them a formidable competitor in any field trial.
A typical Barshoe bird dog, Champion Barshoe Hard Twist is currently in the string of Dean Lord, the outstanding handler and trainer from Texas.

Lee and many of his friends have won numerous championships for over 30 years with great training grounds for horses and hand picked pups from selective breeding.
Virgil and Jere are running dogs in the evening. Virgil mostly rode his younger Tennessee Walker to give the horse enough exercise.

In American field trials, horses are ridden to watch and keep pace with fast front running bird dogs. Bridle bits and leather harnesses are equipment used to control the horses' behavior.
Horses that have smooth walking gait are a must to stay on the saddle for hours. Tennessee Walking and Missouri Foxtrotter horse breeds are popular for field trials. A good horse is indispensable and irreplaceable. Horses, like dogs, can recognize situations and know when to get up to a standing bird dog.
